Job Description


Calling all dynamic communication professionals! The Utah Department of Commerce's Division of Real Estate is actively seeking a self-driven, innovative strategist to elevate our community engagement and empower Utahns in the real estate market. This role is pivotal in positioning the Division of Real Estate as a trusted resource for consumers and licensees, requiring a proactive approach to building and maintaining positive relationships with all stakeholders, including State employees.

**This position will work in the office for training (up to 3 months) and then, if eligibility requirements are met, have the opportunity to telework up to 3 days per week.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In this position, you will help the Division of Real Estate (Division) tell its story both internally and externally. You will assist in developing and creating public outreach materials/assets to communicate Division programs, goals, and objectives to a wide breadth of audiences. Examples of assignments include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Developing a Division communications plan and proposed communications budget on an annual basis aimed at positioning the Division as a primary resource for licensees, consumers of its licensees’ services, and internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Coordinating with the Department of Commerce's Communications Director and Assistant Communications Director on communication and engagement initiatives.  
  • Cultivating productive working relationships with other communications professionals within the Department of Commerce.
  • Developing engaging and informative content and assets for multiple channels, including graphics, content for social media, the Division's website, and physical outreach materials.
  • Coordinating the production and publication of the Division’s newsletter, ensuring timely, polished, and relevant communication to recipients.
  • Planning and executing in-person events with Division staff, enhancing engagement and outreach efforts.
  • Researching issues impacting consumers, stakeholders, and licensees, including evaluating data and reports from government and nonprofit entities, and collaborating with Division management to create responsive and relevant materials. 
  • Using feedback and industry best-practices to guide the Division on enhancing the customer experience for constituents interacting with the Division.
  • Managing the Division's website content and structure, ensuring accuracy, user-friendliness, and spearheading the Division’s transition to new state website templates.
  • Assisting with Department and Division responses to requests from members of the public, the media, and stakeholder groups.
  • Drafting accurate and well-structured correspondence, reports, documents, and/or other written materials.
  • Receiving, researching, and responding to inquiries or complaints directed to the Division via social media, Google reviews, etc., providing information, explaining policy and procedures, and/or facilitating a resolution.
  • Acting as a liaison between the Division, its public bodies, and other government agencies and private organizations.
  • Maintaining and/or creating files or record-keeping systems -Sorting, labeling, filing, and retrieving documents or other materials.


IDEAL CANDIDATE

This position requires a highly organized and self-directed individual with exceptional time-management skills, capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities are essential, as is the ability to produce clear, accurate, and engaging written and visual content. The ideal candidate will possess excellent public speaking and presentation skills, enabling them to effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2 years of experience working in a professional communications role.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing, editing, and social media management.
  • Demonstrated experience in event coordination.

PREFERRED

  • Proficiency in using graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
  • Experience with or knowledge of the real estate, mortgage, and appraisal industries, or similar topics.
  • Strong understanding of media relations and social media strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
  • Current State of Utah employees.

  • Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):
    • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
    • Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System. 
      • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
      • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.  
    • Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
  • Paid Time Off:
    • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
    • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service. 
    • We have 12 paid holidays.
