About ReefTO:
The Great Barrier Reef Traditional Owner Taskforce (ReefTO) is a grassroots, Traditional Owner-led initiative that honours the decades of work by Elders to assert cultural authority and rights to sea country. We’re not just asking for a seat at the table - we’re building our own.
ReefTO is guided by the Reef 2050 Traditional Owner Implementation Plan, a living document created by mob, for mob. Our mission is to amplify Traditional Owner voices, elevate priorities, and drive genuine partnerships across the Reef.
ReefTO has three key objectives over the next 2-3 years:
- Engage with Traditional Owners to establish a Sea Country Alliance.
- Oversee strategic policy and capacity building actions in the TO Implementation Plan.
- Monitor and report on the delivery of actions in the TO Implementation Plan.
We’re currently in build-mode, laying strong foundations, navigating ambiguity, and pushing for impact. We love passionate, skilled people who are up for the challenge!
ReefTO is hosted by Pollination Foundation until a Sea Country Alliance is set up.
The role:
We're looking for a Digital Comms Coordinator to join our marketing team and be an integral part of bringing our culturally grounded vision to life. You'll be joining a communications team of four, working remotely, with some travel to meetings within the Reef catchment area in Queensland.
This is a role where you can use your digital skills to create big impact. You'll lead the development and delivery of digital content, manage online platforms, coordinate campaigns, and support storytelling projects including long-form documentary and podcasts. You'll also oversee reporting and analytics to ensure our communications are data-informed, optimised and community-driven.
Everything we do is culturally grounded and supports the aspirations of Reef Traditional Owners. You'll get to tell our stories in culturally sensitive, engaging and respectful ways.
Responsibilities include:
- Drive the content strategy and integrated communication campaigns for various digital communications platforms that promote ReefTO’s vision and priorities.
- Lead website content management and optimisation, including developing copy, regularly reviewing design and usability, managing and integrating plug-ins, SEO optimisation, and ensuring that content is kept up-to-date.
- Manage EDM campaigns and subscriber engagement. Maintain automated sequences and send out regular email broadcasts (by audience segment) to ReefTO’s email database.
- Manage ReefTO’s social media channels (LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram), including content creation and scheduling regular posts, monitoring and responding to messages and comments, and analysing data.
- Track performance across digital channels and campaigns and produce regular reports with insights to inform strategy and continuous improvement.
- Work with the Director, Comms & Creative to regularly review and update ReefTO communications plans with consideration for different ways of reaching and engaging ReefTO’s diverse audiences.
- Contribute to the development of strategies for protecting Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property and/or Indigenous Data from a digital communications perspective.
- Manage external and internal communications related to digital campaigns including contractors and agencies.
- Provide advice to ReefTO’s program areas on digital-related strategies and developments required for business initiatives.
- Support other strategic communications projects as required.

Who we're looking for:
- Minimum three years' experience in digital communications, content creation, or a related field, with a strong portfolio of work across social media, websites, and EDMs.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, engaging, and culturally respectful content for diverse audiences.
- Basic graphic design skills, including proficiency in tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.
- Experience managing digital platforms, including social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram), websites (WordPress), and email marketing tools (MailChimp).
- Ability to interpret analytics and performance data, and apply insights to improve communications strategy and execution.
- Understanding of, and respect for, Reef Traditional Owners' aspirations, and a commitment to amplifying Indigenous voices through communications.
- Cultural competence, including the ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
