Position Overview
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications, the Public Relations and Communications Sr. Manager will serve as a strategic communications leader responsible for shaping and executing comprehensive internal and external communications strategies. This role is essential for elevating Minerva’s profile in top-tier global media, advancing thought leadership, and ensuring consistent and meaningful internal communications that align with our mission and values.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator and strategist who understands how to navigate both U.S. and international media landscapes. They must possess a strong global perspective, the ability to craft narratives that resonate across cultures, and a passion for advancing an educational mission grounded in innovation and global citizenship.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement strategic communications plans that align with Minerva’s mission of cultivating global leaders
- Lead all public relations initiatives including proactive media outreach, story pitching, and earned media placement in U.S. and international outlets
- Develop and place thought leadership content, including op-eds, speeches, and presentations showcasing Minerva’s innovative curriculum and global impact
- Manage internal communications to foster engagement and alignment among faculty, staff, and students across Minerva’s worldwide locations and remote workforce
- Coordinate award submissions, speaking opportunities, and reputation-building efforts
- Build and nurture strong relationships with journalists, editors, conference organizers, and key external stakeholders
- Advise senior leadership on communications strategies and crisis communications to protect and enhance the university’s reputation
- Maintain a consistent, authentic, and compelling voice for Minerva across all channels and communications touchpoints
- Craft compelling stories that convey complex ideas with clarity and purpose, showcasing the voices of Minerva’s diverse community
Qualifications
- At least 7 years of experience in public relations, communications, or journalism, preferably with a focus on higher education or mission-driven organizations
- Demonstrated success securing earned media coverage in major U.S. and global outlets
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills that can translate complex ideas into accessible narratives
- Experience managing internal communications in a distributed, global organization strongly preferred
- Strong strategic thinking, project management, and relationship-building skills
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment and collaborating with diverse, global teams
Ability to serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on communications priorities and challenges
Budget: Salary range of $70-85K
Starting salary range of $70-85K, with potential for higher compensation commensurate with exceptional experience and qualifications. The title and compensation are flexible for an outstanding candidate who demonstrates significant expertise in PR and communications.
