The Botswana Institute for Technology, Research and Innovation (BITRI), is a newly established science and technology institute whose mandate is to undertake research, identify and or develop appropriate technologies in line with national priorities and needs of Botswana. BITRI invites suitably qualified applicants for the following position:

 

STRATEGIC PLANNING AND COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER-EMOBILITY PROGRAMME

Significant improvements in decarbonisation of transport, seeking alternative fuel sources and using technology-driven processes such as business intelligence, market data and information management are all being pursued to maintain our position as one of Africa’s electric mobility solutions provider.

The Role

 

The Strategic Planning and Communications manager plays a pivotal role in the strategy and communications mandate of eMobility Botswana, helping to shape the organisational strategy planning monitoring and reporting, and changing opinions and build confidence in electric mobility, in support of our work to promote successful adoption of electric mobility solutions in Botswana the good of consumers and the economy.

 

Key performance areas

 

• Established integrated strategy of eMobility Botswana which seamlessly integrates communications at all levels, both internal and external.

• Adoption and integration of operational plans across all functions of the organisation.

• Timely availability of reports on strategy, communications and project progress.

• Timely and proactive communication and escalation of strategy, project implementation and milestones with targeted and relevant stakeholders.

• Achievement of strategic and project goals and targets within set timelines and budgets.

 

Main Purpose of the Position:

 

The incumbent  will work closely with the Programme Coordinator, Project Manager, the project team and other  stakeholders  as a partner and implementer as follows:

  • Ensure effective internal and external stakeholder management to facilitate alignment with best practice automotive operations and professionalisation.
  • Formulate, review, and implement relevant policies, strategies, rules, regulations, systems, and procedures that are meant to facilitate the delivery of the Strategy Planning and Communications department’s mandate.
  • Develop measures, milestones, and procedures to monitor the organisation’s achievement of approved strategies and plans.
  • Contribute to the development, approval, maintenance and dissemination of eMobility Botswana’s regulations, policies, standards and engagement activities and milestones.
  • Provide input into the development, review and approval of the Code of Teaching Professional Ethics based on research and international best practice standards.
  • Provide input on the development of teaching accreditation requirements in liaison with the teacher Professional Services Function.
  • Develop the monitoring and evaluation policies and processes to measure the effectiveness of eMobility Botswana’s strategies, programmes, policies and alignment with automotive standards.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies for projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate and manage the monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the strategic plan, departmental operational plans and initiatives that the organisation may undertake.
  • Coordinate and manage the production of periodic consolidated performance tracking reports

 

Education and experience

 

  • A Masters degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Project Management, Communications or any other equivalent qualification acceptable to BITRI is required. A Post graduate qualification in Strategic Management, Strategic Communication, Project/Programme Management and/or Monitoring and Evaluation is desired.
  • At least eight (8) years post qualification experience in Strategic Management, Project/Programme Management, Communications management and/or Monitoring and Evaluation.
  • At least three (3) of these years should have been spent in a supervisory  and independent work responsibilities.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, communications planning/implementation and organisational performance measurement, including indicator selection, target setting, reporting and developing performance and M&E methods and frameworks.
  • Experience in manufacturing/processing project environment will be an added advantage.

Remuneration

 

BITRI offers attractive working conditions and remuneration commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

The above position is for Three (3) years fixed term contract.
