CPNYC’s mission is to support and advocate for the children of incarcerated parents while speaking out against root causes that affect the communities we serve, including systemic racism, poverty. and bias in our nation’s criminal justice system.

CPNYC has successfully developed an innovative model, the only one of its kind in New York City, which co-locates a licensed mental health clinic and children's centers in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx. CPNYC provides an array of youth development programming and services tailored to each child's individual strengths and challenges and fosters a unique uplifting environment to foster hope and resilience.

Position Overview

The Development & Communications Manager will play a key role in supporting the organization’s fundraising, donor engagement, and communications strategies. Working directly with the Director of Development & Communications, this individual will support individual giving, volunteer-to-donor conversion strategies, campaign messaging, and day-to-day departmental operations while helping position CPNYC as a thought leader in social justice, child well-being, and mental health.

Essential Job Functions

Fundraising and Development

  • Support and execute donor cultivation and stewardship strategies, including donor touchpoints, briefings, tours, and follow-ups.
  • Draft fundraising materials, e-vites, appeal letters, and board decks.
  • Maintain donor database (Salesforce), including data entry, reporting, and segmentation.
  • Manage volunteer-to-donor conversion campaigns and matched giving strategies.
  • Track KPIs and support Director with reports, pipeline strategy, and impact storytelling.
  • Identify and research new funding opportunities including corporate matches and volunteer giving.
  • Support grant proposal and site visit preparation with scheduling, packet creation, and logistics.
  • Assist in coordinating corporate service days and volunteer events in collaboration with program staff.

External Communications & Digital Content

  • Lead the development and distribution of donor-facing communications, including monthly newsletters, impact updates, and acknowledgments.
  • Maintain and update website content and images (Squarespace).
  • Draft and distribute press releases and agency announcements.
  • Support CEO positioning and thought leadership efforts with timely storytelling and media outreach.
  • Direct and manage the Social Media Coordinator on campaigns aligned with fundraising and advocacy goals.
  • Design one-pagers, flyers, and decks in Canva or similar platforms.
  • Track and maintain updated program impact data and metrics for all communications use.

Events & Project Management

  • Provide logistical support for fundraising events, donor briefings, and corporate volunteer experiences.
  • Assist in planning and executing cultivation events and giving days.
  • Represent the organization at community, donor, and corporate events as needed.
  • Submit weekly updates and track progress toward departmental goals.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skill and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3+ years’ experience in nonprofit development, communications and fundraising.
  • 2+ years of Grants / Proposal writing
  • Demonstrated success in coordinating fundraising and cultivation events.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Salesforce CRM and Mailchimp preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Squarespace and Canva.
  • Experience managing cross-functional projects in fast-paced, mission-driven environments.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple priorities with attention to detail.
  • Passion for social justice, youth development, and community impact.
