Position Objectives:
• To provide high-level support to the vice president and the senior vice president of the Media Relations Department
• To initiate and manage a variety of projects for the Media Relations Department using discretion and independent judgment
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
• Represent the Media Relations department’s senior staff in all forms of communication regarding campaigns, advertisements, and media inquiries applying sound judgment
• Develop, manage, and execute a variety of projects, including PSA placement projects, in consultation with senior staff, and make sound, independent decisions in their absence
• Conduct research, prepare written analyses, schedule and lead meetings, and draft correspondence on behalf of senior staff and/or to support the department's special projects
• Draft and update detailed reports, SOPs, speeches, and letters covering a variety of issues
• Oversee and track the need for urgent weather media alerts
• Strategize and execute mailings to media industry contacts by conceptualizing and seeing it through to completion
• Support and execute other media and/or advertising-related initiatives managing budgets and timelines
• Coordinate media tours by managing relationships with vendors, handling tour scheduling, crafting associated talking points, and liaising with staff
• Use WordPress to manage Media Center projects
• Coordinate department-wide initiatives, lead weekly and monthly meetings, and make travel and other logistical arrangements as needed
• Professionally represent PETA's campaigns to the media and the general public
• Exercise sound judgment and confidentiality at all times
• Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors
• Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Two years of high-level administrative support experience
• Project management experience preferred
• Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
• Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated exceptional ability to handle situations with discretion
• Exceptional writing abilities, especially in composing and editing letters
• Proven ability to make sound judgments and work independently
• Willingness and ability to be on call during weekend and evening hours
• Demonstrated ability to deal with a wide range of people in a professional manner
• Proven ability to take initiative and follow through
• Proven strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
• Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
• Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues

The hourly pay range for this position is $20.29 to $24.92 per hour. The ultimate hourly pay within this range that will be offered to a qualified candidate will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and the cost of living in the area in which the candidate will live and work.
