Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. The Manager, Internal Communications manages the planning, development and implementation of internal communication plans and initiatives to support the communications objectives and key priorities of divisions/business units across the corporation. This position provides communications knowledge and expertise related to the employee experience, including employee engagement, culture, employer brand and internal.
This is a contract position, up to 19 months.
What will I be doing?
- Manages the production and delivery of internal communications products (e.g. print, graphics, audio/visual and digital) including employee intranet, Viva Engage, and newsletter
- Oversees communications tactics and metrics that informs and engages internal audiences, drives business priorities, and enhances employee engagement
- Manages all corporate translation requests (and manages the vendor relations)
- Leads the development and implementation of internal communications strategies and plans required through the Communications division’s business planning process and guides cross-functional teams in support.
- Provides expert/authoritative advice and support to all management levels throughout the organization regarding the planning and implementation of broad internal communications strategies, plans and projects.
- Works with senior management to provide information and present communication strategies.
- Guides the internal communications team in the planning, coordination, promotion and execution of special events (Town hall, etc.).
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in communications or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated progressive experience developing and implementing strategic communications planning activities/initiatives/projects.
- Thorough knowledge of communications, business communications and planning, journalism, and social media applications theories, principles and practices.
- Strategic communication planning and implementation principles, methods, techniques to lead the development and implementation of annual strategic communication planning.
- Leadership skills to successfully coach and mentor unit staff and staff on project teams
- Organizational and analytical skills to develop and plan strategic communications programs, activities, events and campaigns.
- Partnership building, relationship management and collaboration skills to consult with and provide advice, guidance and recommendations to senior management and division/business unit management.
- Works a standard 36.25 hr. work week within an office environment.
- Position is required to be available outside of regular office hours to maintain business relationships and address issues as they arise.
- Supports and/or attends Metrolinx special events and external functions that may result in extended or irregular working hours
