Salary Range: $120,000.00 - $170,000.00
At Leap Orbit, we are passionate about transforming healthcare through innovative technology solutions. We specialize in implementing cutting-edge software solutions that enhances healthcare data interoperability, streamline workflows, and improve patient outcomes. As a fast-growing, dynamic company, we value collaboration, creativity, and a commitment to making a real impact in the industry. We run at healthcare’s biggest challenges.
We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Solution Engineer for our Health Tech Consulting practice. This is a role for a hands-on "builder" and architect; if you are a engineering people manager, this is likely not the right role. The ideal candidate is a T-shaped expert—demonstrated experience in software development and architecture and fluent across many modern cloud technologies—who can navigate complex system design trade-offs and takes holistic ownership of their solutions.
The Senior Solution Engineer will serve as a pivotal technical lead on client accounts, driving the successful delivery of complex health tech solutions. You will provide solutions and ongoing technical guidance to our partners, develop robust testing frameworks, conduct thorough code reviews, and actively contribute to software development alongside our government and enterprise clients. This position requires familiarity with modern infrastructure technologies, (e.g., Terraform, Docker, AWS, Azure, DataBricks, and Snowflake) and integrating with or building native applications on modern electronic medical records (e.g., Epic, Oracle Cerner, Netsmart).
Reporting to the Deputy Director, Federal Products, this role needs a "yes, we can build it" attitude, where you leverage your experience to provide practical advice and actively participate in building solutions that exceed client expectations.
Essential Functions
- Design solutions that assist clients in achieving their goals.
- Serve as the technical lead on client projects, providing expert guidance and support.
- Rapidly develop Proof-of-Concepts to validate new technologies and proactively author best practices and documentation.
- Mentor and guide partner engineering teams, translating complex technical concepts into clear business value.
- Design solutions that support both streaming and bulk data processing workflows, managing real-time data ingestion and large-scale Bulk FHIR export jobs.
- Code software applications alongside clients, demonstrating a hands-on approach.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Amazon CodeWhisperer) to improve development velocity and code quality.
- Implement and enforce security patterns, such as OAuth2/SMART-on-FHIR authorization for all FHIR endpoints.
- Conduct thorough design and code reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices, coding standards, and cost-efficient, scalable architecture.
- Participate in client meetings and technical discussions, effectively communicating complex concepts.
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, API documentation, deployment guides, and operational runbooks.
- Proactively identify and resolve technical risks, effectively communicating complex concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Behavioral and Technical Competencies
- Exceptional solution development skills and the hands-on ability to implement those designs.
- A client-obsessed mindset with a proven ability to understand and solve complex customer challenges through eager engagement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to collaborate with clinical informaticians, data governance, and infrastructure teams.
- Deep understanding of software development principles, cloud-native deployments, and microservice architecture.
- Proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., C#, Python, Java, Go).
- Expertise in cloud infrastructure (AWS EKS, Karpenter) and healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7v2).
- "Yes, we can build it" attitude and willingness to go the extra mile.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary role, involving prolonged periods of computer use. Finger dexterity is required for keyboarding. Extended periods of time reading/viewing computer screens.
Required Education and Experience
- Demonstrated experience in delivering healthcare technology solutions clearly tied to end-user impact.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum (7) seven years of professional software development experience.
- Proven experience serving as a technical lead on client projects.
- Deep understanding of HL7 and FHIR standards.
- Proficiency in one or more modern, object-oriented languages (e.g., C#, Python, Java, Go), with a polyglot mindset being a significant plus.
- Extensive experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Terraform, AWS, Azure) and data technologies (e.g., DataBricks, Snowflake).
- Experience with data integration and interoperability in healthcare.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Amazon CodeWhisperer) in a professional environment.
- Experience integrating with major EMR/EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Oracle Cerner, Netsmart).
- Direct experience in the behavioral health (BH) technology space or with digital/telehealth application development.
- Experience working with Health Information Exchanges (HIEs).
- Experience developing data aggregation and analytics applications.
- Experience working with government agencies.
- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience in strategic, business, or technology consulting.
